Hebron is the town at the top of Newfound Lake — 632 people at the 2020 census, a village common where North Shore Road, West Shore Road and Groton Road come together, and East Hebron out along the northeast shore. Small town. Big lake frontage for its size. We clean carpet, furniture, tile and pet messes in both villages and everything between them.
About a ninth of Hebron is water, which tells you most of what you need to know about the work. The Cockermouth River comes in from Groton, passes the village and drops its sand at the delta, and the wind pushes that sand east along the shore — it’s why the town beach is so broad, and it’s why the carpet in a lake house here wears the way it does. Up around the common the houses are mostly from the first half of the 1800s; the whole village has been on the National Register since 1985. Out in East Hebron there’s Camp Mowglis, running on the lakeshore since 1903, and a long string of camps and rentals on North Shore Road. Three different kinds of building, three different kinds of job.
If you rent on North Shore Road, book the carpet for the week after Labor Day rather than the week before Memorial Day. A summer of delta sand is easier to pull out than a winter of it sitting in the pile.
