Grout is porous. Every mopping pushes gray water down into it, and it dries there, which is why the lines darken years before the tile does. We clean it the only way that actually works: a strong alkaline pre-treatment to break down the buildup, then hot high-pressure extraction that flushes it out of the grout channel and vacuums it away — no dirty water left behind to soak back in.
